How Supported Independent Living (SIL) works
NDIS Home and Living funding for Supported Independent Living covers the cost of around-the-clock disability support and care, which is often delivered in a share-house setting.
Many people who are eligible for this 24/7 care don’t need one-on-one care all the time. So SIL can be a budget-friendly option: you can live in a share-house arrangement, and share the cost of your SIL supports. When you’re looking for a SIL home with For Care, we take the time to match you with housemates with similar interests, which is a great way to develop friendships and enjoy social interactions.
It’s also a cost-effective way to share rent and living expenses. SIL funding does not cover these costs, however each housemate can be part of a Rooming Agreement, which sets out how expenses will be divided fairly. Usually, your Rent Assistance allowance and a portion of your Disability Support Pension are used to cover these expenses.

If you have High Physical Support Needs, you may also be eligible for another type of NDIS funding called Specialist Disability Accommodation (SDA).
This funding contributes to the cost of living in a custom-built or modified home to suit your needs. We have connections to a number of SDA providers, meaning we can assist you with arranging SIL support in an SDA home to suit you.
