How can I get disability support in my home?

For Care Disability Support Services coordinates caring, compassionate, experienced disability support workers to come to your home to help with

-daily tasks
-personal care
-learning new skills, such as meal planning and preparation
-taking your medication
-even finding new hobbies and interests.

We provide flexible, personalised care to suit your individual needs.

If you have higher care needs but still want to be independent, you may be eligible for Supported Independent Living (SIL), which involves 24/7 in-home care, commonly provided in a share-home arrangement.

What is Supported Independent Living?

Supported Independent Living, or SIL, is a type of NDIS-funded disability support which involves 24/7 in-home care.

It is commonly provided in a share-house arrangement, where participants live as housemates, and they have a team of support workers who come to the home on a roster basis, to assist with daily tasks, personal care, learning new skills, taking medication, and even finding new hobbies and interests.

What does Supported Independent Living cost?

Supported Independent Living (SIL) is an NDIS-funded disability support. By applying and being approved for SIL, you’ll be allocated a funding package to suit your needs.

SIL funding does not cover rent – it pays for the disability support provided to you. Other living costs generally come out of your disability support pension and rent assistance.  Sharing with house mates is a great way to minimise these costs.

At For Care, we are an NDIS registered support provider, and we can help you understand your funding and how it can be used to cover the cost of your SIL. For Care can charge at the price limit in the NDIS Support Catalogue for the supports under Attendant Care and Community and Centre Based Activities through the Temporary Transformation Payment (TTP).

For the latest updates on payments, check our Payments and Public Health Updates page.

You can also check the pricing guide and read more about TTP on the NDIS Website: ndis.gov.au/providers/price-guides-and-pricing.

Who will coordinate my supports?

When you engage For Care for your disability supports, we’ll partner you with your own personal Service Coordinator, to keep everything running smoothly.  You’ll also have your own support team on a 24/7 roster to be with you in your home. We always work closely with you to make sure you have a team you ‘click’ with!

Our For Care team is caring, compassionate, and we pay attention to all the things that make a difference, whether big or small.

Where will I live in SIL?

Supported Independent Living (SIL) offers individuals with a disability the opportunity to live independently in their own home with support from a team of experienced support workers.

At For Care, we have a range of SIL homes located across Brisbane, Redlands, Toowoomba, Ipswich, the Gold Coast, Moreton Bay, and Hervey Bay. Our SIL homes are fully furnished and equipped with all the necessary amenities to ensure that you can live comfortably and independently.

What can I bring when I move in to my SIL home?

When you move into your Supported Independent Living (SIL) home, you can bring your own bed and bedroom furniture if you like. Common areas come ready-furnished, and we pride ourselves on providing high-quality furniture and décor to ensure your home feels comfortable, safe and welcoming.

You can also bring your personal belongings, such as clothing, toiletries, and any other items that you may need to feel comfortable and settled in your new home.

You can also bring any equipment or assistive devices that you use to help you with your daily activities. Our support workers will work with you to ensure that your new home is set up to meet your individual needs and requirements.

What qualifications do the support workers have?

When you invite a support team into your home, you need to know they’re people you can trust. Every For Care support worker must pass a police background check, and all have qualifications including Certificate III or Certificate IV in Individual Support, or higher tertiary qualifications.

We also provide our team with extensive specialised in-house training and continuous upskilling, with a strong focus on upholding customer’s rights, choice and control.

For Care is an NDIS registered provider, meaning we are audited to make sure we meet strict criteria relating to safety, quality and compliance.

Can I choose who I will live with in SIL?

Yes! Depending on your needs you may be able to share your SIL home with one or two housemates.  We focus on bringing together like-minded people with similar hobbies or interests. It’s a great way to make new friendships, as well as share living costs.
