For Care

At eighteen, Kristian is a young man with his eyes firmly fixed on all the independence and freedom that adulthood brings. There are big steps to take, but he knows that with the support of For Care, he always has people on his team, who have his back, and are with him every step of the way.

Kristian is in his first year of Supported Independent Living (SIL), after transitioning from out-of-home care.  He lives in a modern home, with a housemate he’s known since childhood – in fact Kristian referred him to For Care’s services. Kristian loves how the home has great communal spaces, as well as privacy features such as ensuite bathrooms for each bedroom.

Eyes on the Future

Kristian has some short and long term goals he’s working towards.

“Right now, I just want to focus on finishing year 12,” he says.

“But then I want to get a job, and get my own car. I’m on my Learners at the moment.”

Kristian’s life experience already has set him firmly on his own career path. “I either want to be a CSO (Child Safety Officer) or a support worker,” he says, determined.

Trusting Bonds

Kristian shows a dry humour and a cheeky wit, and as he jokes with his service coordinator Ashley, it’s clear that their banter comes from a place of safety and security – the feeling you get around the people you are most comfortable with.

“I really trust Ashley. She just gets me, and what I need.  I definitely feel supported, and confident.”

Kristian is also full of praise for his team of support workers, who are with him each day.

“They help us do our washing, cleaning up, help with my medication … It’s reassuring that there’s staff there if I need them.”

“I love that the For Care support workers get to know you on a personal level,” he says.

“If they know you’re going through a tough time they don’t leave you alone – they come and talk to you, check in, see how they can help you.

I feel like For Care is family.”

The For Care team has broad experience in supporting people with disabilities – including empowering young adults like Kristian to learn life skills and pursue their goals.  We can customise a Supported Independent Living solution to suit your own individual needs.
