What does SIL Funding Cover?
One of the great things about For Care’s disability support, whether at home or in the community, is how it empowers you and helps you become more independent.
For Care provides caring, capacity-building disability support at home and in the community, including Supported Independent Living (SIL). Your support workers are qualified, skilled, and ready to empower you to live as independently as possible, learn new skills, and chase your goals.
Your service will be customised to your own individual needs. Every single day your support workers will assist you to work towards your NDIS plan goals, whether big or small. Here are some of the areas where we can support you.
Social skills and relationships
Living in a SIL share-house arrangement is a great way to meet new people and make friends. Your support team will be there to help you develop these friendships, find common interests, and get involved in activities you enjoy.
During the day you may also enjoy getting out and about as part of Community Access support. If you have a goal to develop new friendships, your support worker can assist you to find social programs or activities where you can meet people with similar interests to your own.
Hobbies and Interests
Whether you already have a hobby you love, or you’d like to find something new to enjoy, you’ll be supported to explore that! We love to match our customers with support workers who have similar interests – whether it’s footy fandom, enjoying a musical jam session, or indulging your artistic flair.
Daily Tasks
If you need assistance with personal care, such as showering and getting dressed for the day, that’s definitely something your qualified support worker can help you with. Depending on your needs, you can also learn to take care of your own personal hygiene, with your support team guiding you towards independence.
Housekeeping
Light housekeeping duties such as cooking and cleaning can be provided by support workers. In many cases though, the workers will be there to support you to get involved in these tasks, or learn how to do them yourself, which brings us to the next point.
Life Skills
One major benefit of SIL, and disability support at home, is that it can support you to be more independent! So while your support team can be there to help with cooking and cleaning, they’ll also help you to learn for yourself how to plan and prepare nutritious meals, shop for groceries, and keep your home clean and tidy. It’s a source of pride and satisfaction when you can learn to do these things for yourself!
Budgeting and Money Management
In our flexible SIL arrangements, we’re able to tailor a solution to meet your needs and goals for budgeting and money management. All housemates can contribute to a house fund for things like groceries, or individual housemates can manage their own funds, with support where needed. Your support worker can help you learn to budget, by working with you to plan expenses, such as shopping lists and activities. Participants’ funds are carefully logged, to ensure every dollar is accounted for.
Medical support
Your support workers are on hand to assist with taking regular medication. They have guidelines and policies to follow and records to fill out, to ensure medications are taken as prescribed.
If you have higher medical care needs, we can ensure staff who are trained in those procedures are available to support you.
Behaviour Support
At For Care, we are very experienced in working with and implementing Behaviour Support Plans. We’re committed to working with all stakeholders to bring about the best possible outcomes.
Whether it’s for a few hours per day, or around-the-clock care, your support team is there to understand your needs and goals, and to support you to live as independently as possible. We pride ourselves on offering you choice and control, and being flexible.
